From your legs to your elbows, there are many tendons in your body. Tendons are a type of soft tissue that attaches muscles to bones, and they’re made of a flexible type of tissue called collagen. Tendinitis is a condition that occurs when any of your tendons is irritated and becomes inflamed, and if this inflammation lasts for six weeks or longer, it can be called chronic. There are four common reasons that people have chronic tendinitis that requires treatment.
1. Sporadic exercise schedule
Many people lead busy lives, and it can be difficult to find time to exercise. This is why amateur athletes tend to do the majority of their exercising over the weekend. However, this sporadic schedule can lead to tendons that aren’t strong or flexible, and this can increase your chances of developing and needing treatment for chronic tendinitis.
2. Repetitive movements
One of the other common reasons people need chronic tendinitis treatment is they’re doing too many repetitive movements. Repetitive movement is any action that places repeated stress on a body part, which in the case of tendinitis are tendons. For example, jogging is a popular form of exercise, and it involves repetitive leg movements that place stress on tendons in your ankles, knees and hips. Such movements can easily lead to chronic tendinitis, especially if you’re pushing yourself too hard.
3. Poor equipment
Using equipment that is worn out or damaged when you exercise is another reason you may have chronic tendinitis that needs treatment. A perfect example of such equipment is running shoes. If you’ve ever gone out jogging in running shoes you’ve had for years, it’s likely that your shoes aren’t very supportive anymore. The lack of support and cushioning such shoes offer can increase stress on tendons necessary for jogging. The increased stress can then lead to tendinitis, and your tendinitis can become chronic if you continue to use the worn-out shoes rather than replacing them.
