Pain can occur in the pelvic region for several different reasons. Sometimes, it’s related to a serious condition in one of your vital organs in the pelvic region. This kind of pain is usually accompanied by symptoms like fever and nausea. If you have pelvic pain with these kinds of symptoms, you should visit a doctor immediately for an examination.
In many cases, pelvic pain is related to something less life-threatening that affects the soft tissue or one of the joints in the pelvic region. In these cases, you may notice you have pelvic pain when walking. If this sounds like you, take a look below to discover some of the reasons this may be happening to you.
What causes pelvic pain when walking?
- Weak or stiff muscles — The muscles in your pelvic region play an important role in supporting the bones and joints in the pelvic region and in your lower back. Lack of physical activity can cause these muscles to grow weak and tense. When this happens, the bones and joints can take on more pressure from your body weight, which causes pain and stiffness in the pelvic region.
- Strains — A strain is when one of your ligaments are stretched too far or torn. When this happens to a ligament in your hip or pelvic region, you may notice pain in the pelvis when walking or performing other activities.
- Sprains — A sprain occurs when a muscle is stretched too far or torn. This can happen to the muscles in your hip or pelvic region, which causes pain in the pelvis.
- Tendinitis — Tendinitis is a form of inflammation that affects your tendons. This usually occurs due to overexertion in physical activity. Tendinitis in the hip or pelvic region can cause you to feel pain in your pelvis when waking.
- Scar tissue — Have you recently had an operation in the pelvic region? Whether it was to repair a damaged muscle or soft tissue or to correct an issue in one of the vital organs in that area, surgery can leave behind scar tissue. Scar tissue causes tension in the pelvis that can be painful when walking.
